With trumpets, balloons, flashing pendants, neon streamer and poppers! This is how the former University of the Philippines College Baguio (UPCB) freshmen who experienced the 1990 earthquake in Baguio City celebrated the UP Baguio Alumni Homecoming Pasiklaban Parade last December 5, 2008.
IT was fun watching the young battle it out with the “oldies.” Still possessing that competitive spirit, the alumni pushed themselves as they competed with the younger varsity players in exciting and fun-filled matches in basketball and volleyball.

Barely over a week after Ondoy’s devastation in Metro Manila and neighbouring provinces, a new typhoon hit the Philippines — typhoon Pepeng (international codename: Parma) — this time causing havoc to Northern Luzon, including Baguio City, the home of Sayote Republic netizens. We have already received news of UP Baguio alumni and their family who lost their home in the mudslide. Likewise, many of us have families and friends who have been affected by the floods in Pangansinan.
If you have already noticed, the comments system for this blog has been given a fresh new look. On Sep 26, Manila and neighbouring provinces were hit by tropical typhoon Ondoy (international codename Ketsana) causing loss of lives and widespread devastation of property. Filipinos both home and abroad have united in the spirit of bayanihan so provide relief to those affected by this tragedy. And even when the storm has passed, there is still work to be done in helping those pick up the pieces and start lives anew. We’ve compiled a list (especially for the Baguio and UP community) – which will be updated regularly – of where and how you could extend a helping hand. If you are aware of other initiatives, please send an email to admin@sayoterepublic.net. Remember, no amount is too small!
