The Baguio City Public Market is the womb of Baguio City. While we celebrate the city’s centennial year, the market quietly passes its 101st year. That is, one hundred and one years of the growth of a public space that has a unique aesthetic and a vibrant atmosphere. 101 years of extensive, thick, living networks of farmers, fisher-folk, entrepreneurs, their families, and the families of Baguio residents and visitors. 101 years of trade in the products of our region, and products from around the country and the world.

Alumni Homecoming, nilindol!

With trumpets, balloons, flashing pendants, neon streamer and poppers! This is how the former University of the Philippines College Baguio (UPCB) freshmen who experienced the 1990 earthquake in Baguio City celebrated the UP Baguio Alumni Homecoming Pasiklaban Parade last December 5, 2008.

Roberto “Obet” Liwanag, a UP Baguio freshman was on his way to Baguio City, at Kennon Road when the 1990 earthquake struck Baguio City. The bus he was in plunged into the ravine. His body was retrieved by his father days after. I’ve never met Obet but I am writing this in his memory and in the realization that I am lucky to be given another shot at life.
