Ang Istorya ng History 2 Ko

First year first sem. Block 1-B. History 2. Nakaugalian na sa block namin ang mag-pass around ng little notes sa isa’t isa during class. That time I was sitting at the farthest row. Sa harap ko si Booker. I was uninterested in the subject siguro dahil hapon ang klase at talaga namang nakakantok. Bago lang ang teacher namin nun. I think it was her first time to teach so malamang kabado at nangangapa pa.

I was supposed to pass a note to a friend in the first row. She asked kung kanino galing. I raised my hand para walang madamay. She said she’d talk to me after class sa faculty room.

I went up with her sa Soc Sci office. Sabi nya mahirap talagang intindihin ang isang bagay kapag sarado ang isip mo para dito. Mahinahon pa rin syang nakipag usap. She asked me to at least try to be patient with the subject. Wala naman akong choice. Tapos na nun ang last day of dropping. I was even ready to receive a singko.

I continued attending the class. I stopped writing notes to friends (well at least sa class lang na yun). Natapos din ang sem. Inihanda ko na ang tenga ko sa litanya ng ate ko. But no, hindi ako singko… pasado ako. J

Admittedly, mali ako. Pero….. oo na nga, walang pero pero.

haha!! OMG kuya rem, that's like the farthest thing from happening.. I don't even think that far. But yeah. I think that's a dream worth pursuing. hehe... It's nice to know that you have a growth mindset. I personally have a fixed mindset on most aspects. I am so much of a goal and results oriented person, that everything should be win-win. If accordingly there are four kinds of personalities, (the Lion-leader, the Otter-motivator, the Beaver-systematic and organized, and the Golden Retriever-the ultimate loyal follower) then I am a Lion..so for me, everything I do has to have results..positive ones. Otherwise, I see myself as a total failure. But other than that, I am becoming, on my own assessment, a Growth Mindset person. I try to incorporate everything that I know. Nga lang,it also boils down to the fact that there is just so much one person can do for the growth of the whole...

hi debbie. i would like to think that i have a growth mindset. to me, it's an empowering realization to tap potential energies into kinetic forces (idol ko si yoda eh!). Rhonda Bryne takes us to a similar path in her bestseller, The Secret. keywords like optimism, eternal possibilities and faith. i still think that i can be successful as a salesman because of my buoyant nature. but I must admit, past frustrations have hampered me to rely on a fixed mindset. Nakakapagod din when you over-exert. Kaya mas masarap na lang umupo at magmuni-muni, rendering me complacent. yes indeed, this is luxurious, but not productive. Pag ganito ng ganito, malamang di na talaga ako magiging presidente ng pilipinas (brgy captain nga malabo pa e).
I'm really glad your company invests a lot on the training of its manpower. I'm looking forward to the time when you've become the Vice President or even President of your corporation.

    hi kuya rem!

    so, what's your mindset?

    :-p

Hi Debbie. Thanks for this interesting bit of knowledge. I looked it up in google; and this is what i found.
Dave Shearon writes: I am just finishing Mindset by Carol Dweck, Ph.D. Great book! A must read for parents, teachers, coaches, executives, friends, couples, leaders, those who face challenges ... well, that pretty much covers everyone, doesn't it? Dr. Dweck's terminology has evolved to using short, Anglo-Saxon words to describe her constructs. There is the "growth" mindset and the "fixed" mindset. In some of her academic pieces, these are called "incremental" and "entity" theories (sometimes, "naive theories").

    Here are the basics:

A "fixed" mindset focuses on "abilities" or "traits." In academics, this mindset promotes the belief that one either is or is not smart, that a "smart" person does not have to work to master material, and that failure, rather than being a signal for greater effort or better strategies, is a signal of lack of intelligence. As a result, those with a fixed mindset avoid challenges and decrease effort after setbacks. In athletics, the fixed mindset focuses on "natural ability." In relationships, the focus becomes "fit" and "mind reading." In business, it leads to leadership based on intimidation and a need to prove how "smart' the leader is.

A growth mindset, on the other hand, takes setbacks and challenges as signals of an opportunity to learn. In academics, an individual with a "growth" mindset is willing to try difficult subjects and continue to work toward mastery. This is NOT about those who lack ability needing to work more. It is about those with equal amounts of whatever the genetic component of intelligence is getting very different results in things such as organic chemistry based on their mindset.

haha.. I remember doing that often in class. Actually, di lang yun, i'd actually doodle and play snake or react on my CP in front of the teacher--and I was sitting in the front pa! kapal ng mukha ko...there are profs who don't mind, or who don't show that they don't mind. But I remember that one time I was actually spacing out, kung ano nang na-doodle ko sa notebook ko, di ko na maalala. But I remember Mam Lulay (may she rest in peace) who was really tita lulay (her daughter is my best friend) looking at me with dagger eyes, and saying "Debbie, if you're not interested, you can step out of the class." That will forever be embedded in my memory. But far from that, the company's on the path of learning about the concepts of Mindset (by Carol Dweck, Ph.D.), turns out, what your prof said then is a statement on Growth..If only everyone (noypis) thought like that, we'd be one of the most respected people in the world...
